Irish-Medium Education

What do Parents think?

‘When the Gaelscoil opened in my area I sent my two youngest children there. It is one of my proudest achievements to date as a parent’ – Deirdre, Parent

‘My child loves going to the Gaelscoil. She is really happy there, it is fantastic to hear her speaking Irish playing with her friends’ – Anita, Parent

What do Pupils think?

‘Tá mé sona sásta ar scoil! I love my class & school.’ – Katie, Pupil

‘I received both my primary and secondary education through Irish and I am now studying in a third level college. The benefits for me were enormous and I can now speak two languages fluently.’ – Sorcha, 3rd Level Student, NUI Maynooth

What do Teachers think?

‘I love teaching in the Gaelscoil. It feels like ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’ every day in our school. The other teachers in the school feel the same as well, they are inspiring and we all work towards delivering the best education we can offer. I really feel like I am making a positive and inspirational difference in the children’s education and in their lives.’ Sinéad, Teacher in a Gaelscoil

What do Principals think?

‘I have been involved in Gaelscoileanna for the last 20 years after 10 years in non Gaelscoileanna. As a teacher and Principal I have seen the confidence of children in their ability to be fluent in two languages from a young age. I love to see the development of Junior Infants who come to school with no Irish , but then are using simple words and phrases within days, and move to understanding so much within a few weeks. Why deprive a child of an opportunity to be bilingual with all the advantages that that brings, with no extra pressure on the child.’ Prinicipal in a Gaelscoil
